class=\"MsoNormal\">On the subject of enforcement, I can only give you my<br \/>\nopinion.&nbsp; First, most city officials are so overloaded with normal<br \/>\n&#8220;stuff&#8217;&#8230;they just don&#8217;t have time\/take the time to investigate options<br \/>\non matters normally reserved (by that, I mean traditionally reserved) by<br \/>\nfederal officials.&nbsp; Illegal immigration enforcement is one of those.&nbsp;<br \/>\nSecond, most city officials run from the threat of litigation.&nbsp; It&#8217;s<br \/>\nexpensive and time consuming.&nbsp; Local officials have a much easier course<br \/>\nof action&#8211;blame it on the Feds.&nbsp; It has worked.&nbsp; Third, a high<br \/>\npercentage of local officials have liberal tendencies and while they may not be<br \/>\nfor &#8220;open borders&#8221;, they sure act like they are.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I&#8217;m cut a little differently.&nbsp; It is probably the<br \/>\nmilitary in me.&nbsp; I believe in the rule of law&#8211;and it was obvious to me<br \/>\nthat our country was under &#8220;attack&#8221; from a non-English speaking,<br \/>\nunskilled, and largely uneducated population that did not respect our laws nor<br \/>\nour values\/traditions.&nbsp; I saw the opportunity with 287(g) and sought<br \/>\nit.&nbsp; I faced opposition from sympathetic groups, etc, but because 287(g)<br \/>\nwas a federal program, I thought &#8220;What the heck?&nbsp; who can fault me<br \/>\nfor pusuring a program authorized by Congress?&nbsp; And, if they sued me, what<br \/>\nwould it be for?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I can&#8217;t begin to tell you the pressure I got from a number<br \/>\nof individuals and groups.&nbsp; But my default setting was always back to<br \/>\nthis:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">1.&nbsp; Was it right (to ignore the laws of this country)?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">2.&nbsp; Was the program I was pursuing purposed in solving<br \/>\nthe dilemma&#8211;and was it litigation-proof?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">3.&nbsp; Would our city embrace it?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">To our credit, even despite the efforts to shoot me down,<br \/>\nour city was successful and it did not take very long (a few days) for Springdale<br \/>\nand the Wash\/Benton County Sheriff&#8217;s offices to jump on.&nbsp; Why?&nbsp; To<br \/>\nme, the answer was clear&#8212;because they knew illegals would leave Rogers and<br \/>\ndisplace to their areas.&nbsp; Simple. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">You did not write to get a thesis on this subject.&nbsp; But<br \/>\nit is important for people to know the context of what I have done, why I have<br \/>\ndone it, and more than anything&#8211;that I have the courage to lead.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This subject\/issue is complicated for sure.&nbsp; There&#8217;s<br \/>\nmuch more that could\/should be done to protect our borders.&nbsp; Honestly,<br \/>\nthere is likely no better time than now to reach some consensus on the way<br \/>\nforward&#8211;given that 6 people are &#8220;looking&#8221; for every job that is<br \/>\nopen.&nbsp; When unemployment is low and jobs are aplenty, rank and file<br \/>\nAmericans are not so predisposed to taking a stand.&nbsp; Right now, it<br \/>\n&#8220;ain&#8217;t&#8221; that way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">All I want is a &#8220;seat at the table&#8221; when Congress<br \/>\ntakes this issue on.&nbsp; As I said before, if we don&#8217;t address it now, we&#8217;ll<br \/>\nbe having this discussion again&#8211;and the problem will have grown.&nbsp; America<br \/>\ndoes not need
