\nThe actions of Republican voters in Iowa today in supporting Mike Huckabee
\n(with the exception of Fred Thompson’s 3rd-place finish and some other votes)
\nshould be regarded as a black day for the nation, the conservative
\nmovement and the Republican Party. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nyou want to know about Mike Huckabee, please read this information that was
\nposted by radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt.  I have — to the best of
\nknowledge — only one person on my e-mail list still writing me about what a
\ngreat candidate and person Mike Huckabee is for our nation.  Let
\nme use the words of Phyllis Schlafly, who is one of the truly great
\nconservative leaders in our nation and who said of Huckabee:  “He destroyed the conservative
\nmovement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party in shambles.”<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

                        <\/span>  There is a reason why Democrats like
\nTed Strickland (governor of Ohio), former DNC Chairman and Clinton supporter
\nTerry McAuliffe and the New Hampshire chapter of the NEA all really like
\nHuckabee: He is a great hope for turning the White House over to the Democrats. 
\nI have nearly reached the point where I will not support Mike Huckabee (even if
\nhe is the GOP nominee) under any circumstances.  As Rush said
\ntoday, Huckabee is no conservative.  <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\nBELOW:  Judicial Watch, a nonpartisan group dedicated to
\nfighting government corruption, listed Huckabee among their <\/span><\/strong>Ten Most Wanted
\nCorrupt Politicians<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> of 2007. Huckabee was one of only three Republican
\npoliticians to make the list.<\/span><\/strong><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span><\/span>In October, a University
\nof Arkansas poll showed that, among all Presidential candidates in both
\nparties, only 8% of Arkansans said they were supporting Mike Huckabee.<\/strong> <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span><\/span>That same week, the Arkansas
\nDemocrat-Gazette <\/em>reported that only one-third of Republicans in the
\nArkansas Legislature<\/strong> said they were supporting their former governor’s
\nPresidential bid. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00b7<\/span>  <\/span><\/span>After this story, the
\nHuckabee campaign published a list of supporters in his home state. The
\nArkansas News Bureau then reported that as some of the names on Huckabee’s
\nArkansas endorsement list were <\/strong><\/span>used without permission<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> and had to be removed<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

A Plea from Arkansas: Christian Conservatives
\nNeed to Take a Closer Look at Mike Huckabee’s Record as Governor<\/span><\/strong><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

As a conservative, evangelical,
\npolitically-active father of four in Arkansas I believe it is imperative
\nfor like-minded voters to become more familiar with the Mike Huckabee that just
\ncompleted 10 years as our governor. I realize it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sometimes hard to know
\nwhat to believe during a campaign, so I’ve tried to include links to published
\nstories, with most coming from years past when the events
\nnoted were taking place.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

For those who don’t know much about me, I
\nattend a very conservative evangelical church in Central Arkansas that includes
\nsome other politically active members (past\/present elected officials,
\nlobbyists, candidates, etc), and our family currently homeschools our young
\nchildren. Since 1996, I have been heavily involved in numerous Republican
\ncampaigns in Arkansas at all levels (even managing a few). I have
\nalso served as vice chairman of the Republican committee in Arkansas’
\nlargest county. Yet I don’t know of a single person in these circles who is
\nsupporting Huckabee for President – although I do know many that are definitely
\nnot<\/em> supporting him. Of course, this is anecdotal evidence, but consider
\nthat Huckabee just finished serving 10 years as our governor (and I am sure
\nthere are many Republicans in Arkansas who are supporting him – I just
\ndon’t know them). The truth is, most conservatives in Arkansas had written him
\noff long before his Presidential bid. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

That said, here are 7 key reasons I cannot in
\ngood conscience support Mike Huckabee as the Republican nominee for President<\/u>.
\nThis is based on his record here and is not a personal attack – I
\ncannot speak for his or anybody’s motives. This list is
\nnot the result of intense research – it’s based on what I know and
\nhave experienced first-hand as a politically-active conservative Arkansan. It’s
\na list I could have given you 6 months or even 2 years ago. And I am not
\nattempting to echo or give validity to any criticism he is now receiving
\nnationally (and I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think ALL of it is fair). This is the Mike Huckabee
\nwe know.<\/strong><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

1) Governor Huckabee did lasting damage to the
\nRepublican Party and conservative movement in Arkansas.<\/span><\/strong> <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s hard to go after Democrats with a
\nconservative message when your Republican Governor is out front releasing
\nviolent criminals, providing state benefits to illegals, pushing tax increases,
\nexpanding government spending and programs, and constantly walking an
\nethical tight-rope (more on each of these items to follow). This tied our
\nparty’s hands – many conservatives got frustrated, apathy set in, and some quit
\nthe fight. In addition:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
