Despite a long gubernatorial record opposing employer<br \/>\nsanctions and pushing tax-subsidized illegal alien education benefits,<br \/>\nHuckabee won Gilchrist&#8217;s support by unveiling a last-minute, tough-sounding<br \/>\nhomeland security plan. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Trouble is, Huckabee has<br \/>\ndownright and longstanding contempt for his new bedfellows of convenience. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Just two years ago, Huckabee<br \/>\nappeared before the open-borders Hispanic group, The League of United Latin<br \/>\nAmerican Citizens (LULAC), preaching an open-door policy. According to the<br \/>\nArkansas News Bureau, Huckabee also criticized state legislation requiring<br \/>\nproof of citizenship to register to vote and enhanced reporting of illegal<br \/>\naliens as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life &#8212; not to<br \/>\nmention &#8220;inflammatory,&#8221; &#8220;race-baiting&#8221; and &#8220;demagoguery.&#8221;<br \/>\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Just last year, Huckabee<br \/>\nlambasted opponents of the bipartisan shamnesty bill providing a mass<br \/>\npardon to illegal aliens as &#8220;driven by racism or nativism.&#8221; He<br \/>\ncalled strict immigration enforcement &#8212; the kind he now supports &#8212;<br \/>\n&#8220;sheer folly&#8221; in his campaign-timed book released earlier this<br \/>\nyear. He actively invited the Mexican government to establish a consulate<br \/>\nin Arkansas &#8212; giving its office a $1 per year special office space rate &#8212;<br \/>\nso that its foreign officials could start dispensing security-undermining<br \/>\nmatricula consular ID cards to illegal aliens for banking and employment<br \/>\npurposes. And he&#8217;s not only for government in-state illegal alien<br \/>\ndiscounts, he&#8217;s for expanding them far beyond what the federal DREAM Act<br \/>\nproposed. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">But now that he needs to<br \/>\nestablish his border control bona fides, Huckabee is all honey.<br \/>\n&#8220;Frankly, Jim,&#8221; he said to the Minuteman Project founder at a<br \/>\npress conference in Iowa on Tuesday, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got to tell you there were<br \/>\ntimes in the early days of the Minutemen I thought, &#8216;What are these guys<br \/>\ndoing, what are they about?&#8217; I confess I owe you an apology<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">It&#8217;s<br \/>\nGilchrist and those who allow themselves to be snowed by Huckabee&#8217;s cynical<br \/>\nconversion who&#8217;ll be sorry and deep in apology debt, I guarantee you. Huckabee<br \/>\nshowed his true colors at the Univision Spanish-language debate over the<br \/>\nweekend when he pandered to the crowd by lamenting &#8220;racial profiling&#8221;<br \/>\nof immigrants &#8212; while remaining silent about catch-and-release policies that<br \/>\nfail to detain criminal aliens who go on to commit more heinous crimes because<br \/>\npolitically correct politicians and police chiefs are more concerned with being<br \/>\naccused of &#8220;racial profiling&#8221; than protecting the public. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Huckabee<br \/>\nisn&#8217;t the only shameless border control cross-dresser in the GOP field, of course.<br \/>\nRudy &#8220;I supported sanctuary policies before I was against them, but my<br \/>\nsanctuary policy wasn&#8217;t really a sanctuary policy, anyway&#8221; Giuliani now<br \/>\nquotes &#8220;the advice of a great man, Father Hesburgh, who said, &#8216;We must<br \/>\nclose the back door of illegal immigration in order to preserve the front door<br \/>\nof legal immigration.'&#8221; In an interview with Washington Examiner reporter<br \/>\nand author Bill Sammon, Giuliani now says he really, truly would have deported<br \/>\n400,000 illegal aliens in New York if he could have. Never mind that small<br \/>\nmatter of the lawsuit he brought against the feds to block them from enforcing<br \/>\nimmigration laws. You&#8217;re<br \/>\nsomebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is<br \/>\noften a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair.&#8221; <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Bringing<br \/>\nup the false convert rear is Sen. John McCain. Earlier this year, he was the<br \/>\nmost vocal critic of grass-roots conservatives who mobilized against the<br \/>\namnesty bill. He now says he has learned his lesson and supports securing the<br \/>\nborder. He has learned nothing. During the shamnesty debacle, he called Rush<br \/>\nLimbaugh a &#8220;nativist&#8221;; over the weekend, he repeated such<br \/>\ncontemptuous &#8220;straight talk&#8221; at the Univision debate by assailing what<br \/>\nhe called anti-Hispanic rhetoric. In an interview with the New Yorker, he<br \/>\nirritatedly dismissed immigration concerns in Iowa as marginal and irrational<br \/>\n&#8212; just a bunch of &#8220;senior citizens&#8221; in Iowa caught up in the<br \/>\n&#8220;emotion&#8221; of a cultural assault. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;\">Bad enough<br \/>\nthat the Democrat candidates are still stuck in a 9\/10 mentality on the nexus<br \/>\nbetween immigration and national security.
