While many pro-life supporters trace
\nMike Huckabee’s rise in the polls to his success in the Sept. 17 Values Voter
\nPresidential Debate<\/span><\/a>, his recent success can also be traced to
\nincreased coverage by the Council on Foreign Relations. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The CFR’s increased focus on
\nHuckabee began with a speech on foreign policy posted Sept. 28 on the Council on Foreign Relations website<\/span><\/a>.
\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Sept. 28 speech, delivered at
\nthe Center for
\nStrategic and International Studies<\/span><\/a> in Washington, D.C., focused
\nentirely on foreign policy, portraying Huckabee as a cautious supporter of Bush
\nadministration policy in Iraq. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

An Oct. 29 University of Iowa
\nHawkeye Poll notes Huckabee’s support through August was flat, beginning
\nto rise noticeably in September and October<\/span><\/a>. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The poll noted, “While Mike
\nHuckabee has gained ground dramatically since the August Hawkeye Poll, he is
\nstill well behind Rudy Giuliani.” <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Today, many consider Huckabee the
\nfront-runner in Iowa. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, despite obtaining the
\nendorsement of Jim Gilchrist, the founder of The Minuteman Project, Huckabee is
\ndogged by his pro-illegal immigration record as Arkansas governor. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Which is the real Huckabee \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the
\nlast, best hope of Jim Gilchrist to secure the border, or the wink-wink border
\nactivist just posturing to win conservative votes in Republican primaries? <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Evidently unimpressed with
\nHuckabee’s recent rhetoric emphasizing border security, a profile of Huckabee
\non the Council on Foreign Relations’ “Campaign 2008” blog, emphasizes only Huckabee’s open-borders record supporting illegal
\nimmigration<\/span><\/a>. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The profile of Huckabee posted on
\nthe CFR website begins a synopsis of the candidate’s position on immigration by
\nnoting, “The former Arkansas governor has openly sympathized with the
\nneeds of illegal immigrants.” <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
