LITTLE ROCK <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u201d Gov. Mike <\/span>Huckabee’s use of a plane provided
\nby a provider that has an $8.5 million contract with the state was <\/span>an in-kind contribution to  <\/span>Huckabee’s political action comittee, the
\ngovernor’s office said Thursday.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

There was no conflict of interest
\nin Hucka\u00c2\u00adbee’s use of the plane provided by the director of the Lord’s Ranch
\nyouth camp for a flight to Ra\u00c2\u00adleigh, N.C., to a state Republican convention
\nthis month, Huckabee spokesman Alice Stewart said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Arrangements were made
\nthrough the Hope America PAC,” she said.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nweekly <\/span>Arkansas
\nTimes of Little Rock reported Thursday that the plane the governor, first lady
\nJanet Huckabee, their daughter, Sarah, a Huckabee aide and at least one state
\npolice security officer flew to Raleigh in on June 2 was owned by Southeastern
\nAsset management, a New Hamp\u00c2\u00adshire corporation managed by Ted Suhl, director of
\nthe Lord’s Ranch, a religious-based youth home in Warm Springs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nflight gained atten\u00c2\u00adtion when Huckabee said the plane developed engine trouble
\nand had to make an emergency landing in Chattanooga, Tenn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Julie
\nMunsell, spokes\u00c2\u00adwoman for the state Depart\u00c2\u00adment of Health and Human Services,
\nsaid the facil\u00c2\u00adity has a state contract paid through Medicaid of about <\/span>$8.5
\nmillion this fiscal year\u00e2\u20ac\u201dup from under $140,000 in 2000.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stewart
\nsaid Thursday that Suhl is “one of numer\u00c2\u00adous plane owners who have offered
\nto provide trans\u00c2\u00adportation to various candi\u00c2\u00addates.”<\/span><\/p>\n

She
\nsaid the flight was listed as an in-kind contribution, but that the exact cost
\nof the” flight was not known.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\ntype of plane used, by Huckabee, a Citation SII; costs up to SI,900 an hour!<\/span><\/p>\n

Huckabee
\ntold The Associ\u00c2\u00adated Press on Thursday that he was “very careful with my
\nown personal things not to mix that” when asked if the contribution posed
\na conflict, of interest.<\/span><\/p>\n

According
\nto the Bureau of Legislative Research, Huckabee spent the $500,000 on 22
\nthings, the most being $100,000 for a group called Play It Again Ar\u00c2\u00adkansas
\n“to purchase [musical] instruments and provide opera\u00c2\u00adtional funding.”
\nHuckabee has been supportive of that group, which distributes used musical
\ninstruments to children.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among
\nother things, he gave $10,000 to the Hot Springs Doc\u00c2\u00adumentary Film Institute to
\nbuy a car; $97,000 to the Game and Fish Commission’s “Hooked on Fishing,
\nNot Drugs” program: 10,000 to the city
\nof Little Rock to <\/span>help in “the development of ‘he Mexican
\nConsulate” office; 5,000 for the Arkansas chapter <\/span>\u00c2\u00bbf
\nthe American Red Cross to help “prepare young people to deal with disaster
\nsituations.” Huckabee’s wife, Janet, works for the Red Cross.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sen. Percy Malone, D-Arkadelphia, made the request
\nat the Joint Budget Committee for a list of everything Huckabee has used the
\nemergency fund for.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I want to make sure it’s not a fund the
\ngovernor has to use however they want,” Malone said. “If that’s what
\nwe’re going<\/span><\/p>\n
