Diversity isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t strength <\/span>
    Re
\nthe guest column by James Van Patten, an alleged lifelong Fayetteville
\neducator who rants that we are a nation of immigrants: Ask what a true
\nnation of immigrants would be. Absent a founding group, it would be no
\nnation at all, but a random gathering of people united only by their
\npresence in the same land.
    The United States is a nation with
\na distinct founding culture, one that remained dominant while
\nassimilating\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand subtly changed by later arrivals. Revolutionary
\nAmericans were fairly homogeneous: 60 percent English, almost 20
\npercent Scottish and Irish (the rest were Dutch and German), and
\noverwhelmingly Protestant.
    Immigrants are people who leave one
\nsociety and move to another. There has to be a recipient society to
\nwhich they move. In our case, the society was created by settlers who
\ncame here in the 17th and 18th centuries. They weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t immigrating to
\nsome existing society. It was the settlers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Anglo-Protestant society
\nand culture that attracted subsequent immigrants. We then, therefore,
\nare a nation with immigrants. <\/span>
    American\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
\nintegrity and sovereignty are strained by multiculturalism, affirmative
\naction and mass immigration. The pet phrase of American politicians is
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Strength in our diversity.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The much-repeated dictum \u00e2\u20ac\u0153nation of
\nimmigrants\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is unquestioned by Americans and foreigners alike. Mass
\nimmigration, both legal and illegal, has transformed our republic into
\na Third World dumping ground, the majority not acculturating, coming
\nfrom countries exhibiting no concepts of individual rights and rule of
\nlaw.
