Hungry Children alleged–another Scam?

May 9, 2009

A dictatorial governor,
135 “fertile minds” working overtime and 20% of Arkansas children under 5 at
risk of going hungry?

Headline:  Fort Smith Times Record: “Children at risk of
hunger”, May 8, 2009.

I responded to an editorial “Capitol Buzz” appearing in the
May issue of Rural Arkansas by Carmie Henry, who is apparently Vice President
Governmental Affairs for Arkansas Electric Coops.  Carmie’s comments centered around Gov. Mike
Beebe.  Carmie wrote that one solon in
this year’s legislative session stated “that he didn’t know why legislators
needed to come to the Capitol at all”. “His suggestion was that Gov. Beebe
could just send his agenda to legislator’s homes and they could vote via the
Internet”.

Carmie spun that comment to be a salute to Beebe. I
disagree, a precise definition of a dictator.
Carmie goes on to say Beebe is “scary smart” and that Beebe and Harriman
are masters at crashing legislation that the two do not want.

Silly me, for decades I have held the misguided belief that
the legislature and the Governor were co-equals.

Carmie responded to my written critique by emphasizing that
Beebe has spent his adult life as a public servant (ugh) earning influence
(yes), working his way up through the state senate, the A.G. and now as
governor….and he concluded and I paraphrase, Beebe deserves to be Governor.

Now to the headline:
Children at Risk of Hunger.   Is
this allegation true or is it to stir sympathetic emotions of Arkansans for
more government expansion?

If in fact the allegation is true as the article stated,
that means more than 17% of children in Arkansas could suffer cognitive &
developmental damage.

The study also shows that 11 states, Arkansas being one of the
11, more than 20% of children under 5 are at risk of going hungry.

I want to direct a question to the dictatorial governor and
the 135 “fertile minds”.  If in fact the
hunger allegation is true, why was it not addressed in the just concluded
legislative session and furthermore; are there not causal aspects to such a
crisis and why were they not discussed?  Governor and the “fertile minds”, has it occurred
to you folks that in all likelihood the illegal Mexican and OTM invasion has
precipitated these alleged needs, and is it your thought rather than addressing
the invasion you will continue to screw the producers by raising taxes and
ignoring the illegal Mexican invasion which ultimately brings the social and
rule of law tent down irreversibly? In this context I’m reminded of the
governor’s statement: “Legal is legal, illegal is illegal, and we’ve got to
find out what’s legal”.  (Try 8 USC)

Beebe has bequeathed $857,000 to each senator and $25,000 to
each representative for vote getting purposes and influence peddling in the
legislature.  These millions are to be
spent solely by the legislators and at their discretion. This represents $60
million of citizen taxpayer funds that translates into a second tier of vote buying
and influence peddling.

Governor and the “135 fertile minds”, would that $60 million
not feed the alleged hungry children and then some? By the way, how could this
be true in view of the multitudes of government welfare programs, i.e.
Medicaid, Arkids 1 & 2, Food Stamps, WIC, Public school “free” breakfasts
& lunches, backpacks with food to go, Food Banks, Shelters, ad infinitum?
Incidentally, about a Billion in federal stimulus money is being put into
Arkansas Medicaid.  And Governor Beebe
wanted to tax milk!

Carmie said it best: “With 135 fertile minds working
overtime, Beebe’s historical perspective and diplomatic talents have served
Arkansas well”.   Right out of the
Communist Manifesto…a failed society in the making.

Carmie’s piece appearing in the Rural Arkansas magazine
(May, 2009) was working hard to ensure the Arkansas Electric Coops got “their”
share of the government pie.

Kindest regards,

Joe McCutchen

Fort Smith
